To the descendants of John and Edna Robertson!

Let's get together!!

We are now a very large family and I know many of us grandchildren have a hard enough time getting together with our own siblings, much less our cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Lately I've felt that we need to plan a time and a place in the distant, but not too distant future where as many of us as possible can get together to remember old times and get re-acquainted.

Some of my fondest memories are of all us Robertson's getting together at Yosemite National Park. Over time we stopped meeting there because our families got too big, and Yosemite got to be more difficult to reserve.

I propose that for the summer of 2012 we make it a goal to meet, camp, and have a great time! Yosemite would be great, but if it's not feasible, Zion NP or some other suggestion would be great too.

  1. Excellent plan! Count me in. I too have fond memories of Yosemite camping trips that include wading through the river with cousins and playing cards with aunts and uncles.

  2. Sounds like a lot of fun! I have lots of fun memories of camping at Yosemite: singing around the campfire and playing games. I was just saying yesterday that I want to hike half dome because I've never done it!

  3. That would be wonderful. Maybe we can try for Yosemite, but have an alternate plan if we cannot get reservations.

  4. I'd love to be there. It really sounds like a great time.

  5. Yosemite sounds great (of course), but probably not possible in the valley. We've had good luck with Granite Flats reservations (been a few years), which isn't far from the valley. Zion NP would be fine, but I'm going to add Timpanogos as a suggestion -- either the campground on the Aspen Grove side or Timpooneke, which has some great large group sites (I believe we did an extended family camp there in 1977). -- Jim

  6. Hi - I'm Jay Robertson's only daughter, Anne. I have great memories of camping, hiking, family gatherings, songs around the campfire, damming the river. . . . I'll be there with at least myself. I'll be contacting my kids & their families about this. Keep me in the loop!

  7. Hey everybody,

Thanks for all the support and ides. It's important to me to find somewhere beautiful to camp (and those who have made suggestions in case we can't meet at Yosemite have all given great ideas), but what will be more important and memorable is being together. Let's keep this going!!

  8. Hey everybody, one year down two to go! I was going to update the blog, but I think I'll just keep the comments going and send out an email telling family to keep thinking about this and come up with a good location.

Jim, where is the Granite Flats campground in CA? The only one I found online is near Lake Tahoe - is that it? I'm not familiar with the Timpanogos campground either, but it sounds like a great option.

I know we'll be living in Virginia the summer of 2012 and will be in a new job so if I can make, anybody can. :)

  9. This sounds wonderful. Count us in!!! Even though I think Yosemite would be great I don't think it is feasible. I've tried to get reservations there 2 different years with no luck. Zion is way too hot in the summer for camping so I vote for somewhere as a much higher elevation. Maybe try to find somewhere with cabin options for those that aren't campers. I'll do a little research. Let's set a date and get this on our calendars.

  10. Sue and Alan checked out Granite Flats Campground while they were in Utah this past week. They said it was a nice campground. There is a little reservoir nearby for those that enjoy fishing or canoeing. Timp Caves are also up the canyon as well as lots of hiking trails.

Another idea is Fallen Leaf Campground at Lake Tahoe. This campground now has yurts available for those without camping gear. South Lake Tahoe has hotels and is minutes away. There is lots to do in the area to keep everyone entertained. This would get my #1 vote.

  11. I remember camping at Timponeke - it was a good place and the hiking was good. I've never been to the Lake Tahoe area, so that would be fun. I, too, prefer to be somewhere that isn't hot (I live in Mesa and get tired of summer heat). Anywhere reasonably cool is OK with me since the important part is getting together with family. There are soooo many of y'all that I don't know or lost track of as we got older.
